About Me

About Me Like many, I was blessed with a high metabolism when I was younger. I didn't pay attention to my eating or exercise habits and remained thin. I was a “lazy eater” – I ate whatever I wanted and was convenient. (The good news is that if you are a ‘lazy eater’, this is the perfect program for you as it addresses food convenience, taste and the need for a real sense of satisfaction from eating.)

Unfortunately, as the years passed, I didn't change my eating or exercise habits very much. I gained weight and was always tired. I blamed my excess weight on stress: my daily responsibilities and an increasingly hectic and stressful schedule. Then one day, I realized that my excess weight was contributing to several emerging health problems as well as my unhapiness with my body. Clothes no longer fit well and the clothes that did weren't very attractive. I could not move around as easily as I once did (getting down on the floor to exercise was out of the question). I developed high-blood pressure and my doctor and I spent several years trying to figure out which high blood pressure medication would work for me; I had high tryclercerides and was at risk for diabetes. THe excess weight didn't help when I incurred ankle injuries which impaired my walking for close to one year – all due to being my being overweight. And…..I was just plain fatigued all the time!

So, I had my “epiphany” at 52 years of age that I needed to ‘get with the program’ and start paying attention to my health. I wish it happened at 42, but better late than never! I needed to find a sound, life-long pattern of eating healthy. I needed to decide if the big portions of unhealthy foods I was eating were really worth all the problems they were causing me. I also realized you can’t ‘have it both ways” (which I believe most of us subconsciously believe – that we can eat whatever we want and as long as we exercise - we don’t have to give up the high fat, high sugar foods). The problem with this logic (as I found out!) is that it sustains you only for a short time - when you are young and your metabolism is in good shape. As you age, our metabolisms SLOW DOWN naturally over time and therefore require a healthy diet (of which eating smaller portions is part) and exercise to keep it revved up in order to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

In short, I have been there! Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions or thoughts you’d like to chat about as you proceed on your weight & maintenance journey!

Enjoy!!
